Hnry vs Franked — Which is Better for Australian Resellers?

Both tools are built for self-employed Australians. But they serve very different types of businesses.

What Hnry Does Well

Hnry is an excellent product for contractors, freelancers, and service providers. Its killer feature is automatic tax withholding — Hnry acts as your payment intermediary, calculates your tax obligation on each payment, and sets it aside automatically. For a contractor receiving irregular invoiced payments, this is transformative. Hnry also handles BAS, super contributions, and expense tracking.

Where Hnry Falls Short for Resellers

Hnry was built for people who sell their time (services), not people who buy and sell products. Key gaps for resellers include:

  • No inventory or COGS concept: Hnry doesn't understand that you buy items to sell. There's no way to track purchase costs against sales.
  • No platform imports: No connection to eBay, Depop, or other selling platforms.
  • Payment model doesn't fit: Hnry works as a payment intermediary, but reseller payments come from platforms (eBay Managed Payments, Depop Payments), not from clients paying invoices.

The Honest Recommendation

If you're a freelancer or contractor, use Hnry — it's brilliant for that use case. If you're a reseller who buys and sells products, Hnry won't serve your needs. Purpose-built reseller tools handle inventory, COGS, and platform integrations. See our full software comparison and sole trader guide.
