Is MYOB Worth It for Australian Resellers?

MYOB has been trusted by Australian businesses for decades. Here's whether it's the right choice for resellers.

MYOB's Strengths

MYOB is an Australian institution. It's been around since the 1980s and is deeply embedded in Australian business culture. Its strengths include strong payroll features (important if you have employees), wide acceptance by Australian accountants, reliable ATO compliance tools, and a solid track record. For traditional small businesses — retail stores, trades, professional services — MYOB is a proven choice.

Weaknesses for Resellers

Like Xero, MYOB wasn't built with resellers in mind. The same fundamental gaps apply: no eBay or Depop integrations, no per-item COGS tracking for unique items, and a feature set designed for businesses that are quite different from online reselling operations. The interface also feels dated compared to newer tools, and the mobile experience is less polished than competitors.

MYOB's pricing adds up quickly too. The Essentials plan starts around $15/month but most resellers would need the $40+ plan for useful features. That's money you could spend on stock or better tools.

When MYOB Makes Sense

MYOB makes sense if you already use it for another business, your accountant specifically requires it, or you've grown to the point where you need payroll and comprehensive financial reporting. For most resellers, simpler and more targeted tools are a better investment. See our Franked vs MYOB comparison and our guide to the best accounting software for resellers.
